Week 18: Look to God and Live!
Ciao mi amici e famiglia! Well I've officially made it through 2 transfers in the mission field and we got the news last night that my comp and I are staying in Frederick! WAHOOOO! Such a blessing because I was not ready to leave the promised land. Also, another huge blessing it that my trainer, Sis Aiono, is coming back to the zone to be the new STL! It's gonna be a great transfer, I'm pumped. Besides the fact that winter is coming and we still aren't allowed to go inside andddd we are still on bikes:) But the Lord will provide!
Highlights:
- Henry is back on track and progressing towards baptism! He is willing to give up everything to follow the word of wisdom and we are helping him keep his commitments. *Send me your best coffee substitutes!*
- Went on mini exchanges with the STLs and taught Kevin a lesson! We read 3 Nephi 11 with him and talked about baptism. He loved every word and it was such a blessing to have Sister Ripley there because she shared some things he really needed to hear. Exchanges are the best.
- Taught at our ward's Youth Conference!! It was so fun. We set up a "Missionary Relay Race" where the kids had to get dressed in missionary clothes, find scriptures on specific topics, make a Facebook post, eat gross food (sardines lol) and ride our bikes to the finish line! After, we talked to them all about how they can be a missionary today. They had a blast!
- Taught an AMAZING first lesson with our friend Sandie. At the end, I handed her her own Book of Mormon and she burst into tears telling us how excited she was to read it. My heart burst!
- Set another biking record and made it home from the church in 12 minutes! Mostly cuz we were freezing cold and it was pitch black so we wanted to get back ASAP!
- Did some street contacting and tried to talk with some people but they shot us down😎 One couple said: "Please leave us alone, we are trying to get high over here." A grandma with pink hair told us: "I'm sorry but I came out here to talk to my bunny rabbit who lives under the tree, not you girls." Hey at least they were nice about it:)
In other news, I found one of my favorite scriptures ever this week! In Alma 37 it is talking about how Lehi and his family would look to the Liahona for guidance and how we can look to the word of Christ in our lives for that same guidance:
44 For behold, it is as easy to give heed to the word of Christ, which will point to you a straight course to eternal bliss, as it was for our fathers to give heed to this compass, which would point unto them a straight course to the promised land.
45 And now I say, is there not a type in this thing? For just as surely as this director did bring our fathers, by following its course, to the promised land, shall the words of Christ, if we follow their course, carry us beyond this vale of sorrow into a far better land of promise.
46 O my son, do not let us be slothful because of the easiness of the way; for so was it with our fathers; for so was it prepared for them, that if they would look they might live; even so it is with us. The way is prepared, and if we will look we may live forever.
47 And now, my son, see that ye take care of these sacred things, yea, see that ye look to God and live.
LOOK TO GOD AND LIVE! Life is hard, but with Christ as our focus we can have eternal bliss! It is that easy! Don't wait til Corona is over or til summer gets here or til you get a boyfriend or til life gets better--you can choose to live your happiest life today, you can choose eternal life today, all you have to do is look:)
Sorry that was way too long of an email but if you made it through, I love u and go listen to LANYs new album for me!
Ti amo tanto,
